The God of My Is…

The prophet Daniel.
Living in exile.
Away from everything familiar.
Stripped of all he knew.
Given a new name…
And, a life he didn’t choose.
Still figuring out the day to day.
Simply existing.

Holding on to one truth:

Sit with that a minute.

There is.
He’s present.
In every heart break.
In every frustration.
In every care.
In every hurt.
In the death of every dream.

Now ponder this:

Say those two lines several times.
Let it reframe the troubled thoughts of your mind.
Let them settle your heart.

There is a God in Heaven.
Even in your Babylon.
Whatever it looks like.
Wherever it has taken you.
Whatever life you didn’t choose.

Now finish the thought:

You are God of my is…
Even in this.

My hope and my stay.
My wisdom when I cannot see.
My strength when I am weak.
My light in the dark.
The nail-pierced hand that holds me when I do not understand.

You are God of my is.
Even in this.

As Jesus told Peter, as He washed the filthy feet of a resistant fisherman:

Maybe faith is simply trusting the God of my is until the day my now becomes my afterward.
